Trademarks

The MIT licence covers the code in this repository. It does not grant rights to Kalby’s brand, and this file states the norms we ask forks to follow.

What is brand, not code

• the Kalby name and the kalby. wordmark
• the dog mark (the head in profile — ICON_DOG in the source)
• the label wording “AI sniffed” (BRAND_LABEL in the source)

What we ask

Fork freely, ship freely, sell it if you like — that is what MIT means, and a widget that outlives us is the point. But a distributed fork should not look like it comes from Kalby:

1. Replace the dog. Swap ICON_DOG for your own mark, or pass one at runtime via the icon option.
2. Replace the brand label. Change BRAND_LABEL from “AI sniffed” to your own wording, or ship with labelStyle: "plain" so no brand face exists.
3. Rename the package if you publish to a registry — not @kalby/….

Both identifiers are defined once, near the top of src/kalby-disclose.js, precisely so this takes two minutes.

What needs no permission

Using the widget as published — self-hosted or from a CDN, on any site, commercial or not — including the dog and the label as shipped. The norms above are about redistribution of modified versions, not use. Statements like “built on Kalby Disclose” are welcome; implying Kalby made or endorses your fork is not.

Why this file exists

Trademark law protects these marks regardless of the code licence; this file is the friendly version, written down so nobody has to guess. Questions: hello@kalby.eu.
